Wafra -meaning “Abundance” in Arabic, reflects our aspirational north-star in seeing local development actors as resourceful, resilient and capable, and is our entry-point in solving and supporting development issues in challenging contexts.
We inform, support and connect development and civil society actors to effectively, efficiently and consistently respond to evidence based local priorities.
We are the regional go-to organization providing all actors with tools, resources, knowledge, and networks to ensure local development needs and priorities are met.
To truly address development priorities, there must first be evidence, knowledge and learning on local development priorities. Our work is informed by political economy analysis, understanding the drivers of change, and identifying multiple pathways for positive change.
Wafra supports Civil Society Organisations of all sizes to maximise and sustain their impact and continue making a positive change to their communities. This includes the design and development of strategy, governance and administration, impactful programming, work planning, fundraising, advocacy and communications.
Wafra is about people, voices, and contributions. We help people come together, convening dialogue, identify solutions and reach consensus . Our events bring attention to issues, allow for the formation of alliances, and are action-driven.
Wafra provides technical and expert advisory support across our themes. Our experts are local to the areas of they serve, guided by international best practice and learning. Our services include bespoke consultancy work and services, including strategy and facilitation, communications and media, research and studies, and enterprise development, and business development (fundraising).
Wafra develops and supports social enterprises (including home businesses, startups, SMEs, and anchor firms), utilising a market systems approach. We diagnose businesses, address weaknesses, provide leveraged investment, and aim to build economic growth that goes back into communities whilst respecting the environment and people's rights.
No issue is more urgent or all-encompassing than climate change and the impact on the environment. We take a focus on the local communities impacted most and how best to work together to overcome these challenges.
We support the development of media products and services for civil society organisations and Not-for profits. We also conduct training for media and journalists and ensure they have the tools needed to cover issues important to local communities and hold decision makers to account.
We aim to bridge the disconnect between local development priorities and donor funding. A number of initiatives such as community controlled grants is developing a new path true to the localisation agenda.

The work for equality of opportunity and rights is again facing pushback. We work with women from local communities and on the national level to build leadership skills, networks, and solidarity.
